All of my rides are filmed in the South Island of New Zealand.  Most are filmed from a car but some by bike. When driving I travel under 50 kph and as slow as 10 kph on steep hills.

If you are interested in Randonneuring (also known as Audax and Brevet) then check out my other groups

Details of filming

  • Filmed with Go Pro 11 with stabalisation and horizon levelling. (Pre Nov 2022 I used a Go Pro 10)
  • GPS recorded on a Garmin Edge 1030.
  • Films are carefully edited to remove any stops with transitions being added to give a smooth continuous feel to the ride.

UPDATE 1st April 23

  • I have started using an ebike to film trails, the ebike helps me mantain a constand speed and less wobbling going up hills.
  • The camera is frame mounted so with sharp corners the camera will pan round the corner rather than follow the trail, this is a bit annoying but the improved stabilisation the rest of the time out ways this annoyance and I have found the trails filmed this way very immersive and enjoyable.

The Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail is the longest of the 23 Great Rides of New Zealand serving up epic vistas from Aoraki Mount Cook all the way to arty Ōamaru beside the Pacific Ocean. It is one of New Zealand’s truly Great Rides; the crème de la crème of multi-day cycling experiences in NZ for the iconic southern landscapes traversed and easily navigated by a wide demographic. There is also a tour available to record your rides here https://virtualbrevet.com/challenges/a2o/ The Trail is broken into nine sections. Ride the full length over five to seven days for the depth of experience and huge sense of accomplishment, or pick one or two sections and ride them as day trips from local towns. The variety of terrain means there is a mix of easy to intermediate trail riding.
